BARRINGTON Cambridgeshire

Welcome to the website for Barrington, Cambridgeshire. Barrington is a semi-rural parish of 2,282 acres, with a population of about 830 people. It lies eight miles south west of Cambridge, on rising ground overlooking the River Cam or Rhee.

Barrington Village Green is an area of around 22 acres and surrounded by over 100 properties.

It is managed by the Green Charity, a registered Charity Number 205227. The Custodian Trustee is the Parish Council. The Green Charity is responsible for the maintenance of the Village Green. The trees, the deep drainage ditches and underground culverts are managed by the Parish Council.

This website is run by Barrington Parish Council, and aims to provide information for residents of and visitors to the village. If you have any information to add to the website, or would like to make a suggestion or get involved, please email us at:  Each of the clubs and services listed on the site have their own contact page so you can go direct to the right person.

Our play areas are well equiped and during 2010 the village set about complete re-vamp of the Challis Green recreation area. A new Multi-games Area, zip wire, BMX trail, and climbing zone were added to the refurbished swings, climbing net, slide and rocking horse.  Many families from around the area come to enjoy these facilities.

The Parish Council would like to thank the Barrington Archive and Diane Alderson for the majority of images on this website.

  Car Scheme Volunteers

  • Do you like helping people?
  • Have a few hours to spare?
  • Hold a clean driving licence?

Why not join this vital and rewarding community project? You would join a pool of volunteer drivers who offer lifts to people who can’t use public transport or make essential journeys by any other means. No regular time commitment is required. Your details remain private - all contact is made via the scheme’s journey co-ordinators.

  Speedwatch Volunteers

  • Fed up with people speeding in our village?
  • Have you got a few hours to spare?
  • Like wearing high visability jackets?

Councillor Richard Gibson coordinates the Speedwatch initiative run in Barrington. We are in need of volunteers to help with Speedwatch sessions. This involves a team of three standing in areas around the village and monitoring vehicle speed with a radar panel. It is a vital role in combating dangerous speeds.
